Margaret River Region · South West WA
The places we’d send our friends.
Not a directory. Just the places we genuinely love — from forest walks and quiet beaches to cellar doors, long lunches and the corners of the region worth taking the slower road for.
Start exploring02 · The Vineside Edit
A local guide, without the checklist.
There’s plenty to see in the Margaret River Region. The trick is knowing what’s worth slowing down for.
This is our edit of the places we genuinely recommend — quiet stretches of coast, forest walks, cellar doors, long lunches, caves, scenic drives and those little detours that often become the best part of the day.
Some are well known. Others are the places you might otherwise drive straight past. You don’t need to do everything. Choose what feels like you and leave a little room for whatever you find along the way.
Pick a few. Leave room for detours.
03 · Coast
Follow the road until it meets the sea.
Some days down here are best planned around the coast. Pick a beach, take the long way there and leave enough time to stay when the light gets good.
01
Beach · West Coast
Redgate Beach
Wild, open and beautifully uncomplicated.
Redgate is one of those places we keep coming back to — rugged coastline, big skies and plenty of room to simply wander. Come for a beach walk, sit above the water for a while, or time it for the end of the day.
Take something warm, even on a beautiful day. The coast can change its mind quickly.
02
Beach · Hamelin Bay
Hamelin Bay
A long sweep of sand and clear water that feels completely different depending on the weather. We like it best before the day gets busy.

03
Coast · Augusta
Flinders Bay
Quieter, gentler and made for a slow wander. It’s an easy place to stop before or after exploring Augusta and the southern end of the region.
Slow walk · Southern coast
Don’t try to see every beach. Find one you want to stay at.
Next · Forest & walks04 · Forest & Walks
Get beneath the canopy.
The forest is one of the things that makes this end of the region feel different. Slow down, get out of the car and spend a little time among the trees.

Forest · Scenic Drive
Boranup Karri Forest
Tall trees, filtered light and roads worth taking slowly.
Boranup is one of those places where the journey matters as much as where you’re going. Wind through the karri forest, stop when somewhere catches your eye and give yourself time to wander without a plan.
Go when the light is low — early morning or later in the afternoon gives the forest an entirely different mood.
Walk · From Vineside
Wadandi Track
One of our favourite ways to start slowly. The track is within walking distance of Vineside and runs through the countryside around Witchcliffe.
Walkable from Vineside · Easy pace
Walk · Coast & Bush
Cape to Cape Track
You don’t need to walk the whole thing. Choose a section that suits the day and you’ll get some of the region’s best combinations of bush, cliffs and ocean.

The best walks aren’t always the longest. Sometimes twenty quiet minutes is enough.

Make lunch the plan.
You could spend all day racing between cellar doors. We’d rather choose a few good ones, settle in somewhere for lunch and let the afternoon unfold from there.

Farm · Wine · Long lunch
Glenarty Road
Our kind of afternoon
Come hungry. Don’t make plans afterwards.
Glenarty Road is the sort of place that makes it very easy to slow down. Settle in for lunch, enjoy what’s coming from the farm and cellar, and give the experience the time it deserves.
Make this the anchor of the day rather than squeezing it between too many other stops.
Mr Barval
Small scale. Plenty of personality.
One for people who prefer a more intimate cellar-door experience. Take your time, have a conversation and enjoy being somewhere that feels genuinely personal.
Stella Bella
Beautiful wines. Easy to linger.
A relaxed stop when you want a proper tasting without making the day feel rushed. Pair it with one or two other nearby stops rather than trying to fit in six.
Taste the region. Don’t race through it.
Next · Caves & landmarks06 · Caves & Landmarks
Go underground. Then head south.
Limestone caves, towering forest and the wild meeting point of two oceans — some of the region’s most memorable places sit at the southern end of the map.
Cave · Boranup
Mammoth Cave
Step out of the forest. Into something completely different.
The caves are one of the things that make this part of the Margaret River Region so distinctive. Mammoth Cave is surrounded by forest, which makes the shift from towering karri trees to limestone chambers feel even more dramatic.
Pair a cave visit with Boranup rather than treating it as a quick stop between wineries.
Cave · Forest
Lake Cave
Smaller scale. Big atmosphere.
The descent into the cave is part of the experience. It’s a beautiful contrast of forest, stone, darkness and reflected light.
Landmark · Augusta
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
Go all the way south. It’s worth it.
The lighthouse sits in one of the most exposed and dramatic corners of the region. Make it part of an Augusta day rather than simply driving down and back.
Above ground. Below it. The landscape keeps changing.
